THE BALL with ORIGINAL TIN LID
These jars are quite scarce, but when rarely found, they almost always come with a replica cap. This one however, comes with its very good original stamped sheet iron cap. There are still a few traces of original tin plating on the lid. A real nice jar too, with good embossing, shiny glass and no damage or stains. The ground rim has the usual flaking, and there is a tiny flick on the sealing ledge (may be a tiny exposed bubble). Original wire clamp is in good shape. A real fine example of this scarce early Ball jar.

Also is full of bubbly character. Base has a “N” within a star, for the Newark Star Glass Co of Newark, Ohio. An impressive early jar.

Half Gal Aqua $XXX.XX

There are only a handful of these jars known with original lids, and this example must be regarded as one of the best.

An aqua stopper jar with nicely whittled glass. This is the smallest size these come in, a little bigger than a pint, but smaller than a quart.....maybe 24 ounces in size. Embossed on the front “Yeoman’s Fruit Bottle” and on the back “Patent Applied For”. Sparkling clean with no damage or stains at all.

Pint+ Aqua $XX.XX

Half Gallon Deep Honey Amber $XXX.XX
SOLD

Extra Crude PATENT 1860 Jar
This is the crudest example of this scarce narrow-quart variety that we have seen. The whittled glass is full of swirls and bubbles, and the embossing is so strong that it seemingly “jumps” off the jar. Unfortunately the jar does have a fissure (crack) in the wax sealing groove running along the inner groove for about 2 inches. Impossible to see until close inspection. Sparkling clean condition. A beautiful piece of early Hemingray-made glassware.

Quart Deep Aqua $XX.XX
SOLD

Free Blown OPEN PONTILED Storage Jar
A clear, free blown storage jar with original sheet iron lid. The deeply pushed-in base has a large open pontil scar. Original tin lid is still in good solid shape, although a little rusty on the outside. Measures 4-3/4" across the base, and 9-3/4" tall.

9-3/4" tall Clear $XXX.XX
SOLD

EXTREMELY DARK Red Amber Lightning
This quart Lightning comes in the darkest red amber color that Lightnings can be found in. Matching lid and original metal bail. Shiny glass has no damage or stains, other than the usual minor flaking of the ground rim. Displays darker than shown in the photo, when placed on a wall shelf....almost looks black in that scenario. This one was in my collection for several years. If you collect Lightnings by color, you may need this extra dark example for your line-up.

Quart Dark Red Amber $XXX.XX
SOLD

An extremely bubbly and sparkling clean example of this scarce early jar. This aqua half gallon comes with the all original closure, including the zinc band with 2 soldered-on vertical lugs, and the correct clear glass insert with an embossed berry sprig. Comes with its original unlined zinc cap in beautiful condition. The jar is also excellent with no damage or stains. These are seldom found, especially with a lid this nice. A great looking little jar.

Pint+ Aqua $XXX.XX

Light YELLOW AMBER Half Gallon GLOBE
This half gallon is one of the lightest amber Globes you will find, just a shade away from pure yellow. Strong embossed and in fine shape with no damage or stains. Matching lid is slightly more orange tinted than the jar. Click here for a photo comparing to other amber Globes. An uncommonly light colored Globe that is also a superb example.

Half Gallon Yellow Amber $XXX.XX

Quart Ball blue $XXX.XX

Golden YELLOW Quart GLOBE
A very light GLOBE quart, nearly pure yellow. There are some light amber tones in the thicker parts of the glass. A lovely example with sparkling glass and no damage or stains. Excellent condition with no damage and a good ground rim, very minimal roughness. The jar has good clean glass....only one extremely light area of deposit on the back. Comes with an unlined, unmarked zinc cap that is a fairly close fit, but stretched such that a rubber band is wrapped around the jar threads to allow the lid to tighten snugly. A very impressive looking jar in this huge size.

GALLON Blue-Aqua $XXXX.XX
SOLD

Very CRUDE Patent Sept 18 1860 Quart
This Hemingray-made quart wax sealer is a very crude example, with a mis-shapen body, and many bubbles in the glass. No damage other than the normal flaking of the ground mouth. Has some light deposit inside near the base. Good embossing. If you like crudely-made jars, this one is sure to please you.

Quart Aqua $XXX.XX

Very SCARCE Wide Mouth Masons CFJCo IMPROVED

This jar has been very rarely found. Comes with the correct original closure, a lugged zinc band and aqua glass insert embossed “MASON’S IMPROVED MAY 10 1870". The band fits nice and snug. Beautiful shiny clean glass and there is no damage or stain of any kind. One tiny flake on the side of the ground rim. A great looking old jar.

PEERLESS All Original
An aqua quart embossed “PEERLESS”. This example is in fine condition, and comes with the best original closure we’ve seen....the cast iron clamp still has most of the original black paint, and the threaded post on the lid is perfect, not a single chip....very rare to find in this condition. The jar appears to have been tumbled to its original brilliant luster, and does not have a mark on it anywhere. A lovely, odd-closured jar in the best possible condition.

Quart Aqua $XXX.XX
SOLD

THE LEADER (1 Line) Amber Complete
This is the scarce 1-line variety “THE LEADER”. A deep amber half gallon with strong embossing and the original glass and metal closure. Clean and shiny glass has no damage, but the ground rim is quite rough, see photo. The ground rim is also very thick on one side. The 1-line half gallon is perhaps the second rarest jar in the whole amber Leader series, second only to the 2-line pint. If you are compiling a set, don’t miss a chance at a nice-looking example of this tough-to-get jar.

Half Gallon Amber $XXX.XX
SOLD

Rare ARTHURS PATENT 1855 Quart
This aqua quart size wax sealer is busily embossed on both the front and the back, click the photo at left for a close-up. The mouth of the jar has a ground finish, and the wax seal channel was formed by downward pressure on the mouth while the glass was still hot. Nice clean condition with no damage. Has a partially open skin deep bubble on the inside. Ground rim is excellent. One of the very earliest patented fruit jars. This is a very rare jar that’s seldom offered for sale.

Quart Aqua $XXXX.XX
SOLD

Rare Type MIDGET CROWLEYTOWN Jar....1 of 4 KNOWN
This aqua Midget Pint Crowleytown-era jar is the rarest and earliest variety, with “MASONS” in a straight line. The jar is shiny clean and lightly whittled, with no damage or stains, only normal minimal rim roughness. Has a flat base and sharp embossing. Comes with the original unlined zinc cap in nice condition. Much of the stamped lettering on top of the cap is still visible. This outstanding jar was formerly in the collection of the late Dick Roller, and is depicted on the dust jacket of his book “THE STANDARD FRUIT JAR REFERENCE” as well as on his business cards. Dick often related to other collectors that it was his favorite jar. Don’t miss this rare chance to add a very important jar to your hoard.

Pint Aqua $XXXX.XX
SOLD

Rare DARK OLIVE AMBER Lightning QUART
This quart Lightning comes in perhaps the rarest of colors for the series, a dark olive amber. To view a comparison shot next to other colored Lightnings, click here. It’s the second jar from the right. Nice condition too, with no damage or stains. Good rim with no problems. Original metal bail and a fairly close matching colored Lightning lid. Embossing on the jar is a little weaker than normal. While occasionally found in Half Gallon and Pint sizes, this color is nearly impossible to find in a quart size....very few examples are known. If you are serious about collecting Lightnings by color, this is certainly one you will want to consider.

Quart Dark OLIVE AMBER $XXXX.XX
SOLD

EXTREMELY CRUDE Air Tight Fruit Jar
A bold, bright blue-aqua colored Iron Pontiled quart. Its a figural barrel form wax sealer, embossed “AIR TIGHT FRUIT JAR”. One of the crudest possible examples, riddled with hundreds of small bubbles. This is the scarce variety, not attributed to Ravenna Glass Works, but rather as a likely Philadelphia-area jar. The mouth is similar to A Stone wax sealers, with a smooth inner lip, rather than the rough-sheared type found on the Ravenna jars. Excellent condition with no real damage....has a tiny flick on top of the inner rim. There are some faint 1/8" stretch marks around the top edge of the inner rim, from the manufacturing, and common to this mouth finish. Still has traces of old red sealing wax in the top channel. The pushed up base has traces of the black iron pontil scar remaining. A beautiful window display jar.

Quart Dp Blue Aqua $XXX.XX
SOLD

Scarce AMBER Quart Size MASONS KEYSTONE 1858
A medium amber colored quart 1858 Mason. There’s a circled Keystone figure below the embossed “MASON’S”. Quart+ Green $XXX.XX

The best possible example.....would look great in any display.

Quart Aqua $XXX.XX
SOLD

JONES-YERKES PHILADA Quart
A scarce aqua quart embossed in two lines “JONES YERKES PHILADA”. This rare jar is in good shape, with a small flick at the wear line on the edge of the heel, and also can see 2 cooling fissures in the base (see photo). These are like crevices in the glass that look like cracks. They catch your nail. Probably have been there since the jar was made, and not noticeable on display. A real good early jar that is seldom seen for sale.

Quart Aqua $XXX.XX
SOLD

Pair of Original Ball Blue Half Pints
A dandy little pair of Ball Blue colored Half Pints. These are both originals from the early 1900's and are both real nice examples. Shiny clean glass and no damage or stains. I saw the tiniest little pinhead flick on the top rim of the screw top jar, extremely minor. They are both about as nice as you will find. You get both of these very appealing little jars for one money. Note also: the screw top jar has mold number “1" on the base.

Half Pint Ball Blue $XXX.XX
SOLD

ORIGINAL Amber MASONS 1858 Quart
This bright orange-amber colored quart is embossed “MASON’S (Hero Cross, unlettered) PATENT NOV 30TH 1858". Has good uniform embossing, and is in fine condition with no damage or stains (normal ground rim flakes). Nice shiny glass in this example, with scarcely a mark on the jar anywhere. The base is embossed with a “PAT NOV 26 67" in a circle surrounding “434". A beautiful, original, amber quart-size Mason jar from the late 1800's.

Quart Amber $XXX.XX
SOLD

2 Diff Colored AMBER GLOBE Quarts
A pair of colored GLOBE quarts. One jar is a deeper amber, the other is a nice yellow amber. Both are fine specimens, with matching colored lids, original iron hardware, and no damage or stains. Good thick ground rims on both. A great-looking pair.

Quart Amber $XXX.XX
SOLD

OLIVE YELLOW Cross MASONS 1858 Quart
A beautiful and rare colored Mason, this quart comes in a lovely golden yellow color with just a touch of olive tone. Very strong embossing and great character to the glass. Has a starred potstone in the back, a manufacturing defect which has probably been in the jar since the day it was made (pic). Sparkling clean glass is full of bubbles and whittly crudeness. Base has the Hero date circle and mold number. Ground rim has the normal flaking. An awesome colored Mason.

Quart Yellow $XXX.XX
SOLD

ROYAL OF 1876 Hemingray
This bright aqua half gallon has beautifully crude and very bubbly glass, strong embossing, and a brilliant luster. Comes with the correct berry cluster glass insert and a regular zinc band. The clear glass insert has a trace of haze, but is perfect. The jar is in nice shape, and has the usual thick, rough ground rim. I saw a flaked chip on the sealing ledge above the threads (see photo). A beautiful piece of glass, and a fine example of this very scarce Hemingray-made jar.

Half Gallon Aqua $XXX.XX
SOLD

THE DAISY JAR Original Closure
A scarce odd-closured half gallon, boldly-embossed “THE DAISY JAR”. Comes with the original iron 2-piece clamp and original glass lid with 1888 patent date. The jar is free of damage or stains. The crudely-ground rim is thick, with the usual roughness on the top surface. The jar and lid both have a nice light SCA tint.

Half Gallon Clear/SCA $XXX.XX
SOLD

OPEN PONTILED WILLOUGHBY Jar ORIGINAL STOPPER
This clear quart is free blown, with an applied collar mouth and pushed-up base with an open pontil scar. Also includes the original 5-piece stopple assembly. The stopple consists of 2 iron plates, the threaded iron stud, cast pewter wingnut, and even the original seal ring, though of course it is now dried out. The cast nut is embossed "J.D. WILLOUGHBY PAT'D JAN 4 1859" on one side, and on the other with an "N" and an "O". It is incredible that they were able to cram this much lettering on the small wing nut! The iron plates are also in nice clean shape with traces of original black paint and very little rust. The jar is brilliant and perfect. I believe this Willoughby is the only free blown fruit jar with a patented closure. The appealing shape along with the originality of this particular example makes for a very fine specimen.
